The nature of things

I forgot to post yesterday, probably due to exhaustion... But the kids having to be outside with me for all the afternoon into evening on Friday and most of the day Saturday were able to experience nature in our own yard. I should have had my camera.

The first thing we noticed were the hummingbirds flitting around in the tree out front of our house, then the goldfinches were out and about. So much for hte birds...

The really cool thing, was watching a cicada killer trying to manuever a cicada through the yard. We have had cicada killers before and we had asked our exterminator (which keeps the spiders outstide), what they are and what they do last year since we had hundreds of them in our back yard and the kids were afraid to play out there. Well, he told us that the cicada killer is a solitary type of wasp. They are loners. They kill a cicada, lay an egg in the carcass and pushes the carcass into their burrow in the ground and next year a new cicada killer will be born... The more cicada's you have in your yard, the more cicada killers. So we watched this cicada killer that is only 1/2 the size of the cicada drag it across the driveway, over to the tree, up the tree and then it took off in flight across the yard. Really cool

The best though, was when we were standing in the driveway we looked down to the end of the cul de sac which ends in a corn field and woods, a fawn was standing there looking at us. She was so pretty. The kids were in awe that one was so close in broad daylight. We found out the little bugger of a fawn, eats the bird seed out of the neighbors feeder!

Really cool stuff!

Rats and still the picture would not post! I have really cute pic of Kole and Kaci in a smiling embrace and I can't get it to upload...

Oh well, better luck next time!
