We left Tuesday morning at 5:30 am to get to the train station by 6 am. We really didn;t need to be there that early, but we really needed the parking space. The parking lot filled up fast! We boarded our train for Chicago and sat back to enjoy the trip. Kole was very excited to be riding the train and talked about how he was getting his teeth fixed and no more owy. When we arrived at Union Station we followed the signs to the taxi pickup area and called for Blue Cab Co. The dispatcher was very polite and the driver that came was very nice! He took us to Shriner's without any trouble at all. Came inside and received his voucher. Wished us luck and we were on our way. The inpatient checkin was so easy. We checked in at the check in desk and told to go to Inpatient. We walked to the nurses station in the inpatient area and they already had his room ready for him. We went in and sat down and they came to us to check him out. No needles. After we were checked in we were sent to lunch. the cafeteria food is good! When we finished lunch we went back to his room and the doctor came in to see him. Then we were on our own until the next day. There is a playroom with coloring and puzzles and movies and toys and rockers and just fun! There is also an indoor playarea in the mall area that has soccer, basketball, foosball, pool, and a play pit with a climbing area. There is also an outdoor playground. We went back around supper time to our room and were told when it was dinner time. those patients with mobility all head down to the cafe. A person passes out the lunch passes for the patients. In the night the nurses came in once to see if Kole might want his last solids. And then in early morning to see if he wanted his last liquids. I let him sleep. In the morning Dr. Lin came in to discuss the procedures. the day before the nurses, and others came in to discuss what to expect. Very detailed! Then Kole was told he could play in the playroom until time to go. He was the second case of the day for surgery. A younger girl in our room was first. Kole played and played, then hopped on the cart to go. They gave him whacky juice in the pre-op with me there and he was a hoot! A regular chatty one. When it was time to go he just waved and off he went. The IV did not go in until he was asleep. That was great! I have to admit our experience there was excellant! especially after we had stayed at another hospital before that I have to say was not near the level that Shriner's is. Kole went in at 9:30 am and I was called at 11:30 and told they were almost done. Then at 1:00 they were wheeling him back. The doc came in before we were going back to explain everything and then gave Kole some tylenol and we went ack to our room. He had 12 oz of apple juice, ate his apple sauce and chicken noodle soup and went poddy, then we were able to leave at 3:30 for our train ride home. Kole started running a fever in the train station and I did not any tylenol so a gentleman broke off a small peice of a regular one for Kole and it worked! I have to say we had a wonderful experience. We arrived home just before 9:30 pm.
Kole had 1 root canal, two caps and 7 fillings.
Kole was fine all night. I am hoping he will be fine today too.

Good to hear the surgery went well, though it must have been quite scary.
We are from Gurnee which is north of Chicago and will probably relocate there when we move back.
Which side of Chicago do you live?
