Waiting for the bus

Where to start!
We all attended an all school open house for Kole to see where his Pre K room is and set up parent teacher conferences for the other two children. Kole was very excited to be going to school. His first day of school Sept 13, which was exactly 6 months from when we signed the adoption papers in Kunming, Yunnan province. He went to school two days last week and next week will be the full four half days. His teachers advise that they have only had to redirect him a few times. He did not understand that he had an assigned seat on the bus. His seat is between his sisters. He would not move one day so we have had to try to explain that he needs to sit where the bus driver has assigned him. Which is in the middle between his sisters. He doesn't like it, but neither do they.
Today we attended a wonderful picnic with other families with children adopted from China. We had the best time and so did the kids. Kali met two girls from the same province as her and close to the same age. She found that really cool.
Kole is doing better. He has his moments when he digresses and does things that are very unacceptable. We are trying to remain consistent and firm. We have found that if we bend the rules or adjust the boundries just once, Kole thinks all rules and boundries are non existent.
He does not understand that there are things that the older kids can do that he can not do yet. We have been trying to give him choices. for example, he can pick his own clothes and does a really good job of it. But he does not like to pick up after himself. But then what kid does....
He thinks that whatever Kaci does he has to do too. Drives Kaci batty and when she starts in and then the noise escalates.... well it ends in tears. Someone anyway. Usually Kole.
We also attended our Neice's wedding. Kole behaved very well! In fact all three did fabulously until about 2 hours into the reception when they were not yet allowed to get up and dance. So, we left and took them to the river to run along the bike trail. They really needed it! So did we. Kole was able to go to Grandma's house for the first time and spend the night. He liked his cousins, especially Philip. Philip took him under his wing and was showing him the ropes of being a boy. Sondra thought he was just adorable, but was way more interested in showing me and the girls her new dresses for all the dances she has been attending with the ROTC and being a sophmore in High School.
Kole does not like bugs. Kali was terrorizing him with a wooly catepillar. I had a really hard time not laughing too hard! It seems, as Philip puts it "You are all a bunch of bullies and it's genetic!" Well, I chased my brothers with bugs, Sondra chased her brother with bugs and now Kali is too. My response was "um Philip, she's adopted!" Then Sondra and myself started laughing. Fun time all around. I guess somethings just happen that way.
